Home is where the heart is. Los Angeles is home, but the Philippines is always in the heart.

I'm DeviantArt's Community Campaign Manager, so my job is to be our community's best friend. I certainly look forward to trying! :)

I speak English, Tagalog/Filipino, Spanish, Polish, Mandarin Chinese, basic French, basic Japanese and basic Hebrew, so try me. I may speak your language, and I may be inspired to learn yours if I don't know it yet. :D

So the very last cross-country Warped Tour kicked off yesterday!

I'm watching this Sunday, and I'd think many of you here on DA are watching as well! Any recommendations for who/what to watch? :XD:
Have you received your #PluralityOfPride badge yet? I hope you've answered the questions so you can get your badge!

Of course I've answered the questions, but it turns out that I don't get the badge! Not sure how I should feel about that. CURSE YOU!
The Fisher Girl
The Fisher Girl is a symbol of Zhuhai, a city in southern China that directly borders Macau. Her story is interwoven with the history of this great city, which I had the great pleasure of staying in back in 2011.

Legend has it that an angel descended to Earth and fell in love with the beauty of the land. Reluctant to return, she turned herself into a fisher girl, weaving nets and searching for precious pearls to earn a living, while also using knowledge and powers to heal villagers who were ill. She was well loved by the many villagers who she lived among, and soon she met one of them: a young fisherman named Hai Peng.

Hai Peng and the Fisher Girl fell in love, but not long after, Hai Peng heard and believed malicious accusations, and demanded that she give him her magical bracelets as proof of her affection. She tearfully explained that while she was still the daughter of the South Sea Dragon King, the eight bracelets were given to her by the eight palace mistresses, to guard her against the thought of abandoning immortality. She tearfully explained that she would die if she even removed one of the bracelets.

Sadly, he did not believe her.

In an attempt to convince Hai Peng to stop him from leaving, the Fisher Girl removed her bracelets, dying instantly in his arms. Hai Peng was filled with remorse and grief, and his great sorrow moved the Elder of Jiuzhou Bay (Jiuzhouwan), who taught him the way to bring her back to life. He had to travel to the Jiuzhou Islands, off the coast, to find the Resurrection Grass, which must then be fed with human blood. After several years and enduring much difficulty, Hai Peng found the grass, grew it with his own blood, and fed it to the lifeless Fisher Girl, who returned to life a true mortal.

On the day of their wedding, all the girls together found a gigantic, magical pearl at the seashore. In gratitude, the Fisher Girl presented this to the reverent Elder, thanking him for bring her back from the dead, and thus Zhuhai -- the Pearl Sea -- was born.
My notifications exploded! Exploding blank

Any idea for how to reply to over 2,000 comments so far? :XD:

Hero-bg by dtab428Fly your flag with DeviantArt as we celebrate the #PluralityOfPride! Join the conversation and check out some of the LGTBQ+ artists we’re featuring for #PrideMonth.

Like the many flags we fly to represent who we are, Pride Month is about celebrating the strength of our plurality, the many identities that complete us and make all of us great, and how they come together to build our common humanity.

Occurring in the same month as the Stonewall Riots (on June 28, 1969) where people were beaten simply for being who they are, Pride Month is meant to be a celebration of coming together in light of this violent beginning. This year, DeviantArt is proud to honor deviants of all identities who, over the years, have helped build us into an ever-more inclusive community where we can just be.

  • Be who we are, without fear.
  • Be different, even if we can't always be in real life.
  • Be ourselves, celebrated and supported by those around us.

Over the years, different LGBTQ+ communities around the world have created various flags, representing the truly diverse nature of this ever-changing community as they seek to find wholeness, strength, and unity. These flags include:

Rainbow Flag

This flag -- the most well-known of them all -- has undergone many iterations, adding and removing colors along the way. Introduced in 1978, it has come to represent the strength, life, spirit and nature of the entire LGBTQ+ movement.

Intersex Flag

Created in 2013, this flag avoids pink and blue, the traditional gender colors, by using purple and yellow to represent the wholeness and potential of intersex people.

Transgender Flag

Introduced in 1999, this flag represents trans people’s continuing quest for completion in their lives.

Bisexual Flag

First flown in 1998, this flag represents visibility and attraction to men and women.

Asexuality Flag

Introduced in 2010, this flag represents the community shared by asexuals and their allies as they redefine attraction.

Pansexual Flag

Created in 2010, this flag uses pink, blue, and yellow to highlight the endless possibility of attraction these people feel.

No matter where you belong on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, or even if you're simply an LGBTQ+ ally, we strongly believe that Pride Month can be a celebration of our collective strength and courage as the community we are and aspire to be. Whether through the art we make, the rights we fight for, or the relationships we build, Pride is about rising above challenges as our colors fly ever higher.

We invite you to celebrate Pride with us, sharing all the wonderful aspects that make DeviantArt different and diverse!

All deviants who comment on this journal by answering the three prompts below will receive a special Pride badge that will display on your Profile.

DeviantArt staff may remove a badge if a deviant’s comment or contribution doesn’t demonstrate the true spirit of Pride.

  • How are you are celebrating Pride this year?
  • Tell (or show!) us what your Pride flag would look like.
  • Why do you think flags are an important symbol for marginalized communities?

You're very welcome! It's the least we can do here on DeviantArt to support our large LGBTQ+ community. :)

No matter who you love or how you identify as in terms of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, you're always welcome here. And we'll make sure that DA will continue to be a place where you can be yourselves. :D

Hi butch-vulture! Thanks for your comments, and I hear you regarding the lesbian flag.

When we conceptualized the editorial, we wanted to include as many people as possible. As much as I would love to include everyone (after all, there are infinite sexualities in this universe!), I was constrained for space. If my (or our) editorial judgement let you down in any way, I truly am sorry, and know that it was not our intention to erase lesbians or any other marginalized group. :( (Sad)

This is something that we can improve on in future years. Granted, I can't make everyone happy, but I strive to be as inclusive of everyone as possible. There is always room for improvement. :)
